Short Service Commission Executive Branch

The Indian Navy offers to unmarried male Indian citizens Short Service Commission in the Executive Branch (General Service).

Eligibility: Age: 191/2 to 25 years.

Education Qualifications: (a) A first class Science graduate with Physics & Mathematics. (b) M.Sc. with Physics of Maths with min. 55% marks. (M.Sc. (Physics) should have done Maths in graduation and M.Sc. (Maths) should have done Physics in graduation). (c) First class B.E./B.Tech. in any discipline.

(d) Science graduates (Physics & Maths) holding NCC Naval Wing, Senior Division ‘C’ certificate can also apply. Physical Standards: (a) Height and Weight: Minimum height-157 cms with correlated weight. (b) Eye Sight: 6/12, 6/12 correctable to 6/6 in each eye with glasses. Should not be colour/night blind.

Short Service Commission is granted for a term of 10 years, extendable to 14 years subject to service requirement and performance/willingness of the candidate. On completion of these tenures, officers are released with gratuity as admissible under the rules.

Selection Procedure: (a) Candidates are called for Service Selection Board interviews, based on their performance in Education qualification. If a candidate possesses higher qualification with better per centage his higher qualification is considered for cut off. Ministry of Defence  (Navy) (IHQ-MoD Navy)) reserves the right to short list applications and to fix cut-off percentage without assigning any reason. (b) Short-listed candidates are likely to be detailed during October-November at Bangalore/Bhopal. (c) The duration of SSB interview is 5 days. consisting of Stage I (day one) and Stage II (4 days).

Stage-I Tests consists of intelligence Test, Picture Perception and Group Discussion tests. Those who fail at the Stage I are routed back on the same day. Stage II consists of Psychological Test, Group Tasks, and Interview. Successful candidates have to undergo special medical exam. at the same venue. (d) Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, are appointed for training in the order of all India merit, depending upon the number of vacancies.

Training: Training is schedule to commence in the month of Jan. Candidates are inducted as officers in the rank of Sub Lieutenant and undergo Naval orientation course at the Naval Academy, Goa followed by professional training at various Naval Training Establishments/ Units/Ships. They are on probation for a period of 2 years, during which they are liable to be discharged if their performance is unsatisfactory.

The Indian Navy offers you:

 Dearness Allowance, City compensatory Allowance, Hill compensatory Allownace, Kit Maintenance Allowance, High Attitude/Uncongenial Climate Allowance, Outfit Allowance, Qualification pay or grant, Parachute Pay and Parachute Reserve pay (as per applicability), Gratuity, Leave Encashment, Entitled ration as per scale, furnished accommodation and allied services at concessional rates, free medical facilities for self and family, group housing scheme, concessional transport facilities for school going children, canteen facilities

(a) on entry total emoluments are approximately Rs. 8250-300-10050/ - in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, (b) Officers are entitled to 60 days annual leave and 20 days casual leave per year, (c) Group insurance of Rs. 15 lakhs is also provided.
