Short Service Commission in Electrical or Engineering Branch

Eligibility: Age:
Must be between 19 ½ to 25 years. Unmarried male Indian citizens. Educational Qualification: B.E./B.Tech. (or equivalent) with minimum 60% marks in aggregate, in any of the following disciplines: Engineering Branch: Mechanical, Products, Aeronautical, Marine, Control. Electrical Branch: Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Avionics, Instrumentation and Control.

Physical Standards: (a) Height and Weight: Minimum acceptable height 157 cms. With co-related weight. The minimum acceptable vision standard for distant vision 6/24, 6/24 correctable to 6/6, 6/6 with glasses. Should not be colour or night blind.

Selection: Short-listed candidates are called for 5–day SSB interviews at Bangalore, Bhopal or Coimbatore, followed by Medical Examination.
(b) The duration of SSB is 5 days. During their stay at the SSB, candidates are assessed in Psychological tests, Individual Tasks, Group Tasks, Group Discussions and Interview. On the first day of the interview candidates undergo an intelligence test and only those who qualify participate in the subsequent tests. Others are sent back the same day. (c) Candidates commended by the SSB, thereafter undergo a medical fit are appointed for training, in order of All India Merit, depending on the number of vacancies, only after verification of the original certificates.

Short Service Commission: Short Service Commission is granted for a term of 10 years, extendable to 14 years subject to Service recruitment and performance/ willingness of the candidate. On completion of tenure Short Service Officers are released with gratuity as admissible under the rules. Grant of Permanent commission is in accordance with the prevailing regulations on completion of Short Service tenure.
