Matric Entry for Trades in Seamen, Engineering/Electrical, Medical and Logistics

The India Navy conducts a competitive examination for recruitment to Matric Entry for Trades in Seamen, Engineering/Electrical, Medical and Logistics.

Eligibility: Age: 17-20 years as on August 1. Marital Status: Unmarried Male Indian Citizens. Educational Qualifications: Matric or equivalent with at least 55% marks. Candidates having less than 55% marks in Matric are also eligible provided they have obtained 55% or more marks in any higher board examination.

Medical Standards:
Minimum Height – 157 cms with co-related weight; Proportion chest with minimum 5 cm expansion. God mental and physical health, free from any disease/disability. No Cardio-vascular, sugar deformities or infection of ears. No history of fits or physiological aliment.

The Matric Entry Sailor:
Induction of sailors into the Navy is primarily from amongst Matric Entry Recruits (MERs). The MERs are paid from the day they are recruited at any of the Naval Recruitment Centres in the country.

Training: Naval recruits are initially given five months basic training at Chilka in Orissa. Depending on their suitability, recruits are allotted seamen, Engineering, Electrical, Aviation, Clerical, Stores or Medical trades. Thereafter sailors undergo training in the allotted trade for a period of 6 months to 1 year. The training is conducted in different Naval establishments all over the country e.g. the training of Seamen and Aviation sailors is conducted at Kochi; training in Engineering and Electrical disciplines is conducted at Naval Engineering Colleges at Lonavala and Jamnagar; Clerical, Stores and Medical sailors are trained at Mumbai. Sailors are also abroad for training in selected disciplines.
During training sailors are entitled to full pay and allowances, free uniform, food and accommodation. On completion of each phase of training, sailors get annual leave not exceeding 60 days during the year on free railway warrant.

               

Pay and Perquisites:
At present on entry, initial emoluments are Rs.2380/- pm (approx.). These are under upward revision. Sailors are entitled to food, accommodation, medical treatment, Group Housing Benefits, LTC and other privileges at government expense. Total emoluments at present rates on completion of training of 6 months are Rs. 2400/- to Rs. 7600/- pm (approx) depending on the rank and years of service. Sailors also have the privilege to avail up to 60 days of annual leave and 30 days casual leave every year. Post retirement benefits include pension and gratuity.

Promotion:
Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master chief Petty Officer (equivalent to Subedar Major). Opportunities for promotion to Commissioned Officer also exist for those who perform well and pass the prescribed examinations. Simplified Recruitment Procedure is same as for the recruitment of Artificer Apprentices.

Sports Quota: Outstanding sportsman who have participated at International/State level should contact Indian Navy Sports Control Cell during April for Qualifying in the Sports trials in addition to Physical Fitness Test, Written Examination and Medical.
