Cadet Entry Scheme (Technical)
Every year the Indian Navy selects young and bright 10+2 (PCM) candidates to join its prestigious College of Engineering at Lonavla (Pune). The college prepares officers to make a career in Marine/Electrical/Electronics/ Aeronautical Engineering or in a Naval Architecture cadres of the India Navy.

Eligibility: Sr. Sec. (10+2 Pattern) or its equivalent from University/ Board with at least 75% aggregate marks in PCM and at least 50% marks in English either in Class X or Class XII. Age: 16-19 years.

Physical Standards:
Height and Weight: Minimum height 157 cm with correlated weight and proportionate chest with minimum 5 cm expansion. (b) Eye sight: Uncorrected without glass 6/12, 6/12, corrected with glass 6/6, 6/6.

On completion of the course, successful candidates are granted Permanent Commission in the Navy as Technical Officers.

Selection Procedure:
(a) Candidates Shortlisted on the basis of their performance in Sr. Secondary/equivalent exam. Are called for SSB interview, which is held during August to October. (b) The duration of SSB interview is five days during which, candidates are put through Psychological Tests, Individual Tasks, Group Tasks, Group Discussions and Interview.

Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medical fit, pointed for training in the order of merit.

Training
Candidates are entered as Cadets and undergo Naval Orientation Course at the Naval Academy; Goa for 6 months followed by 4 years Engineering Course at the Naval College of Engineering, INS Shivaji Lonavla. On successful completion of the course a B. Tech degree is awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University. Cost of Training including books, reading material and free clothing and messing is borne by the Navy.

The Navy offers you: After successful completion of initial training, Cadets are promoted to the rank of Midshipman and get stipend of approx. Rs. 8000/- p.m. After successful completion of a further period of six months training, Midshipmen are promoted to the rank of Sub Lieutenant with total emoluments of approx. Rs. 13,000/- p.m. Thereafter promotions to the rank of Lieutenant and Lieutenant Commander are on time scale.

Promotions to higher ranks, viz. Commander, Captain, Rear Admiral and Vice Admiral are by selection. Officers are entitled to free medical service, leave, other facilities and concessions, as per rules.
