Photography
Photography, provides a good career option to those who have artistic ability, imagination and an eye for details, colour, compositions and forms. Newspapers, magazines, journals, marriages, parties, public functions, exhibitions and firs essentially require the services of a photographer. They look incomplete without photographs.
Photographers operate still cameras, lights and light measuring devices to take photographs of people, places, products and other subjects. They use computers for digitally manipulating images for delivery in either a printed or digital medium.
It is a physically demanding occupation because of the time spent standing and carrying heavy equipment.

Sound technical knowledge, understanding of visual communication theories, artistic flair, and an understanding of contemporary styles and trends in graphics, architecture and fashion are an advantage.
The functions of a Photographer may be to:
advise on visual solutions to problems which arise when photographing products, services and events;
advise on the selection of location, props, models and colour coordination;
offer technical solutions to illustrative problems;
operate a range of cameras, lights and light measuring devices;
use computers for image manipulation; determine camera angles, light positions and film exposures; and mix chemicals, process film and make enlarged prints.

Specialise as you like
However, the areas of specialization in this field are many. Press photography, fashion photography, advertising photography, forensic photography, wildlife photography industrial photography, portrait work etc. are some of the areas where one can work with the camera.
With the growing demand of photography in every field, photography has attained great commercial value and it generates a good amount of income for people trained in this profession. Newspapers and magazines carry photography of persons, places and events in news. As a photo journalist you must be active enough to work for long hours in all kinds of weather and hardships. You must enjoy travelling too. Having a good knowledge of news value would prove helpful.

One can specialise in aerial photography where one has to take photographs of events for newspapers, magazines or for military and scientific purpose. Advertisements carry photographs of products, machines and equipment which are to be sold by the company. Photographs play important role for an aspiring model for whom a good portfolio can fetch him a lucrative assignment. A commercial photographer takes photographs of exteriors and interiors, machinery, merchandise etc.
Another area of specialization is educational photography. Here one specializes in preparing slides, film strips and motion pictures for classroom. One can also take pictures used in scientific research and technical journals. In addition, you can take up teaching profession in schools and institutions. Moreover, one can also specialize as a sports photographer for press.

One can work full-time as a freelancer in this profession. Alternatively, you can set up your own studio. You can get assignments outside your studio. These may range from photographing for a marriage part or function to getting orders from companies to photograph for various Business functions.
