German Silver (nickel silver)
Refers to an alloy of copper, zinc, and nickel, often in the propositions 5:2:2. It resembles silver in appearance and finds use in cheap jewellery and cutlery and as a base for silver-plated wire.

Germanates

Oxy compounds of germanium (IV) showing resumes balances to simple silicates e.g. SrGeO3 (cyclic[Ge2O9]6-) and Mg2GeO4 (orthogermanate). Hydrated GeO4 dissolve in excess base to give [Ge(OH)6]2- and other oxide-hydroxide anions and cations. germanium halide GeX2,Gex4, where X may be F, Cl, Br, I, compounds of germanium with halogen.

Germanium Oxide
Compounds of germanium with oxygen GeO, Geo2. Used in special type of glass and in pharmaceuticals.

Gibbs Function (Gibbs free energy)
Symbol: G, a thermodynamic function defined by.

Glauberite
A mineral consisting of mixed sulphate of sodium and calcium, Na2SO4.Ca SO4.

Glucoproteide
a complex protein which is a compounds of a protein and a carbohydrate; on hydrolysis, it yields amino acids, carbohydrates and their derivatives, sometimes acids such as sulphuric, acetic, etc.

Glycogen

This is a polysaccharide carbohydrate. It consists of branched chains of glucose units. It is quite important in animals as a short term energy store. In vertebrates, it is stored in muscles and liver cells. It can be rapidly converted to glucose by the action of enzyme amylase.

Glycolysis
The process of breaking of glucose and other carbohydrates in crab’s cycle through an enzymatic process with the formation of lactic acid and pyruvic acid. The process results in the release of energy.

Goethite
A yellow-brown mineral FeO.OH, which is crystallizing in the orthorhombic system. It is formed as a result of the oxidation and hydration of iron  minerals or as a direct precipitate from marine or fresh water (e.g., in swamps and bogs). Most limonites have been composed largely of cryptocrystalline goethite. Goethite is mined as an ore of iron.

Gold Grains
198Au encapsulated in platinum used as a radiation

Gold Standard

pure gold is too soft for used as ornaments or for coinage, and is alloyed with copper or silver, or both. The fineness is expressed either in parts per thousand, or in carats. Pure gold is 24 carat fine, and the five standard alloys of 22, 18, 15, 12, and 9, i.e. parts of gold in 24 of alloy, a re legalized.

Gooch Crucible

A porcelain dish having perforated base over which a layer of asbestos is kept. It is used for filtration in gravimetric analysis.
Grain a crystal in a metal that has been prevented from attaining its regular geometrical form.

Gold Chloride (Aucl3)
A brown mass, deliquescent and readily dissolves in water. It is used in electroplating and in photography as a toning agent.

Granulation
A process of sized reduction and size enlargement for producing granules. Dry granulation forms pellets from dry materials, that are crushed into the required size. In wet granulation, the paste formed with a liquid is dried and cut into desired size.
