Galena, PbS
A common lead ore, black bluish-grey with a metallic luster. It has the NaCl structure.

Gallium ga

at. no. 31, at. wt. 69.72, m.p. 29.780C, b.p. 24030C, d 5.907. Found in traces in Zn and Al minerals and in germanite (0.7% Ga). The element, metallic in appearance, has a complex structure; it is obtained b electrolysis of Ga salts.
It dissolves in acids (and alkalis) and becomes coated with a thin coating of oxide on heating in air. Used in doping semi-conductors, light emitting dioxides (GaAs; Gap), electrical devices, phosphorus

Gallium Halide
A compound formed by bonding of gallium to either chlorine, bromine, iodine, fluorine, or astatine.

Gallium oxide, Ga2O3
Formed by heating the nitrate, sulphate, hydroxide, has various forms similar to those of Al2O3. Forms a hydroxide (NH4OH on Gas3+ solution). Both oxide hydroxide are amphoteric, dissolving in acids and bases (to give galates)

Gallium phosphide
G aP Transparent crystals made by reacting phosphorus and gallium suboxide at low temperature.

Galvanic cell
It is a simple device of producing electrical energy by chemical reaction. E.g. Daniel cell. Such a cell is also known as an electro-chemical cell or voltaic cell.
Gas laws

Gaseous diffusion separations
A technique for the separation of gases that relies on their slightly different atomic masses.

Laws relating the temperature, pressure, and volume of a fixed mass of gas. The main gas laws are Boyle’s law and Charle’s law. The laws are not obeyed exactly by any real gas, but many common gases obey them under certain gases obey them under certain conditions, particularly at high temperatures and low pressures. A gas that would obey the law over all pressures and temperatures is a perfect or ideal gas.

Gas mantle
A structure composed of the oxides of thorium (99%) and cerium 1% made by impregnating a combustible fabric with a solution of the nitrates of the metals, nd decomposing the nitrates by heat.

Gas solid chromatography
A column packed with a solid stationary phase is employed for this type of gas chromatography.

Gas thermometer

Refers to a device for measuring temperature in which the working fluid is a gas. It provided the most accurate method of measuring temperatures in the range 2.5 to 1337k.

Gel filtration
This is modified from of molecular sieve. The sieve is a continuous gel made from a polysaccharide. In this case, molecules larger than the latest pore size are totally excluded from the column.

Gem
A prefix indicating that particular substituents are attached to the same atom, e.g., F2SiSiCl2SiF2, geodicnloro-hexafluorotrisilane.

Geochemistry
A branch of study which deals with the study of chemical  composition of earth’s crust and deeper parts, and the laws governing combination, distribution, and migration of chemical elements.
