Alumina Brass
Al2O3, The native form of aluminium oxide occuring as corundum in hydrated forms, as a powder or crystalline ubstance.

Alumina trihydrate
Al2O3H2O, or Al(OH)3, a white powder; insoluble in water, soluble in hydrochloric or sulphuric acid or sodium hydroxide; used in the manufacture of ceramic glasses and paper coating. Also known as aluminium hydrate; aluminium hydroxide; hydrated alumina; hydrated alumina; hydrated aluminum oxide

Aluminous cement
a hydraulic cement closely resembling Portland cement, but composed chiefly of calcium aluminate.

Aluminate
a salt which is formed when aluminium hydroxide or g-alu mina gets dissolved in solutions of strong bases, such as sodium hydroxide. Aluminates exist in solutions having the aluminate ion, commonly written [AI(OH)4]-.

Aluminium
Aluminium is the most abundant metal earth’s crust (approximately 8 per cent by mass). Its alloys are widely used at home and in industry.

Aluminium brass
an alloy having 76% copper, 21.5 22.5% zinc, 1.75 to 2.50% aluminium. Uses: condenser, evaporator and heat exchanger tubes and ferrules.

Aluminium bronze
an alloy of copper containing 4% - 13%

Aluminium chloride (AlCl3)
a white hygroscopic solid which fume in moist air. It exists as dimer (Al2 Cl6) but on heating to 800°C, it converts back to AlCl3.

Alumino ferric
impure Al2 (SO4)3 having some Fe2. Used in water and sewage purification.

Aluminium fluoride (AlF3)
a white crystalline solid. Its primary use has been as an additive to the cryolite (Na3 AlF6) electrolyte in the production of aluminium.

 Aluminium hydride
AIH3, a white polymeric substances (H2SO4 plus LiAlH4 in THF).

IAluminium hydroxide
a white gelatinous solid obtained by adding ammonia to the solution of aluminium salts. It is used to prepare waterproof cloth and as mordant.

Aluminium iodide
a dirty white power, covalent low melting, soluble in organic solvents.

Aluminium nitrate
(Al(NO3)3 9H2O), a hydrated white crystalline solid whicg is prepared by dissolving freshly prepared aluminium hydroxide in nitric acid.

Aluminium orthophosphate Al (PO4)
white crystalline compound m.p. 1500°C insoluble in water and organic solvents, but soluble in acids and bases, useful in paints, pulp and paper making, used in commercial production of ceramics, also called aluminum phosphate.

Aluminium potassium sulphate
(Potash alum, Al2(SO4)3 K2SO4. 23H2O, ALK (SO4)2. 12H2O) a white solid, soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol, prepared by mixing equimolecular quantities of solution of ammonium and aluminium sulphate followed by crystallization. It is used as mordant for dyes, as a waterproofing agent, and as a tanning additive.

Aluminium sulphate
Al2 (SO4)3. 18H2O, a colourless salt in the form of monoclinic crystals that decomposes in heat and are soluble in water; used in papermarking, water purification, and tanning, and as a mordant in dyeing. Also known as alum.
