MS, NMR and Metabolomic Profiling
Both mass spectrometry (MS) and NMR are being extensively used for metabolomics research. Consequently, NMR analysis of curde plant extracts and a comparison of NMR and MS data has become an important approach for metabolomics research. Since identification of all metabolites is rather difficult, metabolite fingerprinting (also called metabolic profiling) without the need of compound identification is another approach that has been used in metabolomics research, particularly for comparing related species, genotypes within a species, stages during development, and responses to different biotic and abiotic stresses. The information generated from this research will prove extremely useful for planning metabolic engineering.
