Trichoderma and Trichogramma as Biopesticide
Trichoderma and Trichogramma are the other well known sources of biopesticides. Trichoderma is a fungus, which is effective against soil-borne diseases such as root rot. It is particularly relevant for Dryland crops such as groundnut, blackgram, greengram and chickpea. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University prepared a formulation based on Trichoderma, that can be effectively used as biopesticide. There are other biopesticides based on Trichoderma, that are marketed in India.

Trichogramma are minute wasps that act as egg parasites. They lay their eggs in the eggs of various pests. After hatching, Trichogramma larvae feed on the eggs of the pest and thus destroy the pest, before they cause any damage to the crop. Trichogramma is effective in controlling pests of sugarcane, cotton, rice, vegetables and fruits. A number of countries are producing trichogramma biopesticide on a large-scale, although in India they are being produced only on a small scale, and that too by the cooperatives, state agriculture departments, IPM centres and agricultural universities.
