Requirements for Commercial use of Immobilized Enzyme Systems
The use of immobilized enzymes in industry attracted increased emphasis during 1970-1980, so that by late 1970s immobilized isomerase became a major commercial success, making possible the production of high-fructose com syrup, so vital for soft drinks industry. Immobilized enzymes and whole cells are today utilized in a variety of industrial processes.

It should however, be appreciated that immobilized enzymes make only a fraction of the total cost. In developing an immobilized system, once the cost: benefit ratio is favourable, immobilized system may be developed and improved for commercial purposes. For this purpose, the following four areas should receive adequate attention of the decision makers for the use of an immobilized enzyme system.
