The human chromosomes are of two types, namely autosome and allosomes. Autosomes are somatic chromosomes and they control body characters other than sex. They are 22 pairs.

Allosomes are sex chromosomes. They control sex characters. Man contain one pair of allosomes.

The allosomes are of two types. They are X chromosomes and Y chromosomes.

Human female contains two X chromosomes. Human male contains one X chromosome and one Y chromosome.
