Master Programme - Technology

(iv) Master of Fashion Technology (Apparel Production) The candidates applying for this programme are administered with General Ability Test (GAT) and Managerial Ability Test (MAT) for the written entrance examination.

General Ability Test (GAT): This test comprises of various sub-tests as given below: Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs

1) Quantitative Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates. The sub-test consists of questions on Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Linear Programming, Fundamentals of Computer Applications, Production Engineering, etc. of the level of graduation.

2) Communication Ability: This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.

3) English Comprehension: This sub-test is aimed to test one's ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.

4) Analytical Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate's inference and logic from the given information.

5) General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate's general knowledge and current affairs.

Managerial Ability Test (MAT): It is a test to judge the managerial effectiveness and interpersonal skills of the candidates. This test comprises of various sub-tests as given below: Case Study, Business Domain Test, Logical Ability.

1) Case Study: This sub-test is based on a situation of an industry environment. It helps to evaluate the candidate's managerial ability.

2) Business Domain Test: This sub-test is to judge the knowledge of a candidate on fundamentals of textiles, apparel industry, import and export sectors, WTO issues related to textiles, apparel brands, etc.

3) Logical Ability: This sub-test is aimed to evaluate the candidate's ability to identify the logic or reason involved in a particular problem given and applying the logic in solving the problem. Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking is likely to be useful. Shortlisted candidates of the written entrance examination are required to undergo Psychometric Test, Group Discussion (GD) and interview.

Psychometric Test: This is an assessment test that measures the general competencies. The competencies measured fall into two groups: Task Oriented and People Oriented Competencies. This assessment test measures both the task and people oriented competencies.

The Task Oriented Competencies measured are Analytical Thinking, Global Perspective, Innovation, Learnability, Planning and Organising, Problem Solving, Process Oriented, Strategic Thinking

The People Oriented Competencies measured are Communication, Coordination, Leadership, Negotiation Skills, Teamwork

Case Study based Group Discussions: Group Discussions would entail a discussion comprising of approximately 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on a case study given on which a panel of experts will assess the candidates on the following parameters: Conceptual clarity, Knowledge of the topic assigned, Contribution made on the topic to the group, Interpersonal skills, Ability to generate new ideas, Problem solving approach, Leadership qualities, Effective communication.

Personal Interview: A candidate is judged on the various parameters as listed below: Career orientation, Aptness for the field, Overall personality traits, Overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities, Communication, General awareness and aptitude

(v) Master of Fashion Technology (Design Space)
The candidates applying for this programme are administered with General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT) for the written entrance examination.

General Ability Test (GAT): This test comprises of various sub-tests as given below: Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs

1. Quantitative Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates. The sub-test consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, Distance, Profit &Loss, Algebra and Geometry of the level of matriculation.

2. Communication Ability: This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.

3. English Comprehension: This sub-test is aimed to test one's ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.
4. Analytical Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate's inference and logic from the given information.

5. General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate's general knowledge and current affairs.

Creative Ability Test (CAT): This test is administered to judge the skill, power of observation, innovation and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the candidate's usage of colour and illustration.

Short listed candidates from the written entrance examination are required to undergo Psychometric Test, Group Discussion (GD) and Interview.

Psychometric Test: This is an assessment test that measures the general competencies. The competencies measured fall into two groups: Task Oriented and People Oriented Competencies. This assessment test measures both the task and people oriented competencies.

The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination for which they are admitted by NIFT viz. Written Test, Situation Test, Psychometric Test, Group Discussion and Interview (as the case may be) is purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. If on verification at any time before or after the Written Test, Situation Test, Psychometric Test, Group Discussion and Interview (as the case may be), it is found that candidate does not fulfil any eligibility criteria, his/her candidature for the examination shall stand cancelled without any notice or further reference.

The weightage assigned to each test in the final merit list of the entrance examination is as under:
Bachelor Test Weightage:
DESIGN GAT 40%, CAT 40%, SITUATION TEST 20% APPAREL PRODUCTION GAT 60%, MAT 40%
Master Test Weightage
MANAGEMENT GAT 35%, MAT 35%, GO 10%, PSYCHOMETRIC, TEST 10%, INTERVIEW 10%
APPAREL PRODUCTION GAT 35%, MAT 35%, GO 10%, PSYCHOMETRIC, TEST 10%, INTERVIEW 10%, CAT 35% (only for Design Space)
In case of the score being equal, the older candidate according to the date of birth is given preference.
