4-Year Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD)
Eligibility: Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/IB/ICSE, etc. Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years relaxable by 3 years for SC/ST candidates as on 1st June of the year of admission. This 4-year undergraduate design programme, including one year foundation programme, is offered in the following three faculty streams:

21/2 Year Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (PGPD)
Eligibility: Candidates having a bachelor's degree or equivalent in the areas mentioned in the brackets are eligible to apply. Candidates should be 27 years of age (relaxable by 3 years for reseved categories) as on june of the year of examination. Candidates with relevant work experience are preffered. This 2-2% year PG programme is offered in the following disciplines under its five faculty streams. (Pre-requisite qualifications are given in brackets)
Industrial Design
Product Design (B.E./B.Tech./BDes./B.Arch./B.II1t.Des./ or equivalent (Under 10+2+4 pattern or mote)
Furniture & interior Design (Same as product Design)
Ceramic & Glass Design (B.E./B.Tech/B.Des/B.Arch/B.int.Des/BFA/ Equivalent. BCA/BIT/B.Sc/Psy/B.Ed./BSW is also eligible for Toy Design or Any other Graduate with one year relevant experience).
Toy Design & Development (Same as Ceramic & Glass Design)

Textile and Apparel and Accessory Design:
Textile Design (B.Des/BFA/Graduation in Textile, Knitwear or Fashion, Home Science with Textiles & Clothing, textile or Handloom Technology or equivalent. Or any other Graduate with one year relevant experience.)
Apparel Design & Merchandising (B.Des/BFA/Graduation in Textile, Knitwear or Fashion, Home Science with Textiles & Clothing, Textile or Handloom Technology or equivalent. B.Com/BBA/Graduates in Accessories, Interiors or Merchandising are also eligible for Apparel. Or any other Graduate with one year relevant experience)

Lifestyle Accessory Design (B.Des/BFA/B.Arch/B.E./B.Tech/ Graduates in Interiors, Textiles, Fashion or Accessories/ or Equivalent).
Communication Design
Graphic Design (BFA/B.Arch/B.Des/BVC/B.Litt/Graduation in communication, Media, Film and TV, Mass Media or equivalent or any other Graduate with relevant one year experience/creative pursuits).
Animation Film Design (Same as Graphic Design)
Film & Video Communication (same as Graphic design).
Interdisciplinary Design Studies:
Strategic Design Management (Any Graduate with two years full time work experience in a Design/Allied creative organisations. Experience may be relaxed for Post Graduates).
I.T. Integrated (Experiential) Design
Programmes offered at PG Campus, Gandhinagar:
New media Design BCA/BIT/BSc Comp./BFA/B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch/B.Des/ BVC/Degree in Mass Medial or equivalent or any other graduate with relevant experience. (Knowledge of Programming, Scripting and Computer Graphic Tools is required).
Software & User Interface Design (Same as New Media Design)
Information & Digital Design (Same as New Media Design)

Programmes offered at R&D Campus, Bangalore:
Design for Retail Experience* (Design Graduates or any Graduate with two years full time work experience in Retail related fields). Pending approval from Government of India).
Design for Digital Experience* (BCA/BIT/BSc Comp/BFA/B.E./B.Tech/ B.Arch/ B.Des/BVC/Degree in Mass Media/ or Equivalent or any other Graduate with work experience in Digital and allied areas)(Knowledge of Programming, Scripting and Computer Graphic Tools is required).

Issue of forms: October.
Last date for submission of forms: November.
Entrance Examinations for GDPD & PGPD: January.
Admission Information: Forms and information, can be obtained form Academic Office, NID directly by sending a Demand Draft on any Scheduled Bank payable at Ahmedabad for requisite charges favouring National Institute of Design, payable at Ahmedabad. Forms can be downloaded from NID's website, along with required amount of DO drawn in favour of National Institute of Design, payable at Ahmedabad will also be accepted.
Prescribed percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to various reserved categories as per the Government of India norms in force at the time of admissions. Design Aptitude Tests for eligible candidates for Graduate and the Post-Graduate Diploma Programmes will be held at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata & Mumbai.
