Uttar Pradesh State Engineering Admission Test (UPSEAT)
Uttar Pradesh State Engineering Admission Test (UPSEAT) is conducted by the Admission Committee for admission to B.E/B. Tech! B.Arch./B.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering)/B.Tech (Chemical Technology) for admission to the following colleges:

3. Domicile Restrictions: Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from institutions located in the State of UP are eligible for admission to all the courses at all the institutions. Sons and daughters of persons who are domicile of UP but have passed the qualifying examination from institutions located outside the State of UP are eligible for admission to the courses offered at institutions other than the Regional Engineering Colleges, including MLNR Engineering College, Allahabad. Any Indian national is eligible for admission to B.Tech.

(Chem, Technology), courses in Biochemical Engineering, Food Technology, Oil Technology, Paint Technology and Plastic Technology offered at HBTI, Kanpur. Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from institutions located outside the State of UP are eligible for admission against a maximum of 15 per cent (subject to a maximum of 3 per cent seats from anyone State) of the total seats available at G B Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar.

4. Minimum Qualifications for Admission
(i) For Four/Five- Year B.E./B. Tech./B.Arch./B. Tech. (Chem. Tech.) Courses: Intermediate examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of UP Board or equivalent.
(ii) Four-Year B.Tech. (Ag. Engineering) Courses: Intermediate examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Intermediate Agriculture examination of UP Board or equivalent. Candidates appearing anyone of the above mentioned qualifying examinations for admission are allowed to appear in the Combined Entrance Examinations provisionally. However, they must furnish their results before the date of counselling failing which their candidature shall stand cancelled. Candidates seeking admission to the three-year B.Tech. (Chemical Technology) courses at HBTI, Kanpur only are required to furnish their results of B.Sc. Degree Examination by September 30.

5. Age Limit: For most of the Institutions, (except other RECs) maximum age is 22 years on October 1 (relaxable by three years for SC/ST and UP Backward Class candidates) of the year of admission. However, there is no age limit at a few of the Regional Engineering Colleges. .

6. Selection of Candidates on All India Basis All seats for three-year B. Tech. (Chemical Technology) courses at BHTI, Kanpur.

7. Selection: Candidates are selected in order of merit of Combined Entrance Examination. No candidate shall be included in the merit list if he/she fails to secure minimum qualifying marks in aggregate in the papers indicated against each course. The minimum qualifying marks for different categories will be as per the decision of the UP State Govt. This shall be absolutely exclusive of any weightage applicable to the candidates.

Merit list for eligible candidates belonging to various categories will be prepared for the different courses given below based on marks secured in the papers indicated against each course and the weightage if any.

(iii) B. Arch. (5 years) at GCA, Lucknow; Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Aptitude Test in Architecture.

However, the merit list will be prepared based on aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. In case of candidates securing the same marks the relative merit will be decide by considering the marks obtained in the order of Mathematics and Physics. In case of Candidates with intermediate Agriculture qualification the relative merit among the candidates securing equal marks will be decided by considering the marks secured in the order of Ag-I and Ag-II.
9. Examination Centres:
The examination of Group A, C, D and E will be held at all the places indicated below. The examination of Group B will be held only at Allahabad, Delhi, Lucknow, Pantnagar. The Examination for the papers of Groups A and C will be held at Agra, Aligarh, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhopal, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Delhi, Dwarhat(Almora), Etawah, Faizabad, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Hardwar, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Moradabad, Mumbai, Nainital, Noida, Pantnagar, Pauri Garhwal, Ranchi, Roorkee, Sultanpur, Varanasi.

10. Medium of Examination: Candidates appearing in the UPSEAT have the option to answer the papers in English or Hindi. Only standard English numerals are used.         

11. Application Procedure: Application forms with information brochure are available from first week of January of the year of admission from all the institutions of UP mentioned above against cash payment of requisite amount per form. The forms can also be obtained by post from the Coordinator, Admission Committee against Postal Order/Bank Draft of requisite amount in favour of Coordinator, Admission Committee.

12. Last Date: Last date for receipt of Application Form is usually in the month of Feb./March.

Detailed Syllabus
Mathematics  (200 Marks: 2.30 Hours)
Modern Algebra : Idempotent law, Identities Complementary laws, De Morgan's laws, Mapping, Inverse relation, Equivalence relation, Peano's axioms, Definition of rationals and integers through equivalence relations:
Algebra: Surds, solution of simultaneous and quadratic equations, Arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, Binomial theorem for any index. Logarithms, Exponential and logarithmic series, Determinants.
Probability: Definition, Dependent, Independent events, numerical problems on addition and multiplication, theorems of probability.
Trigonometry: Simple identities. Trigonometric equations. Properties of triangles. Use of mathematical tables. Solution of triangles, height and distances. Inverse functions, De Moiver's theorem.
Co-ordinate Geometry: Co-ordinate geometry of the straight lines, pair of straight lines, Circle, Parabola, Ellipse and Hyperbola and their properties.
Calculus: Differentiation of functions. Tangents and normals, simple examples on maxima and minima, limit of functions.Integration of functions by parts, by substitution and by partial, fraction. Definite integration, applications to volume, surface, frustums of sphere, cone and cylinder.
Vectors: Poisson vectors, additions and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications.
Dynamics: Velocity, composition of velocity, relative velocity, acceleration, composition of acceleration, motion under gravity, projectiles, laws of motion, principles of conservation of momentum and energy, Direct impact of smooth bodies, Pulleys.
Statics: Composition of co-planar, concurrent and parallel forces, moments and couple. Resultant of a set of co-planar forces and conditions of equilibrium, determination of centroids of simple cases. Problems involving friction.

Physics (100 Marks: 2.30 Hours)

General Properties of Matter: Dimensional analysis, dimensions of Physical Quantities and dimensional equations, principle of homogeneity, Vector and scalar quantities, Linear motion,
Newton's law of motion, Circular motion, radial acceleration, centripetal force and centrifugal force, orbital and escape velocity, motion of satellite, vechicle on a circular track, Work and Energy. Linear and angular momentum, transformation and conservation of energy, Gravitation, Kepler's laws of planetary motion, weightlessness, acceleration due to gravity, simple harmonic transformation of kinetic and potential energy, specific gravity Archimede's principle,
Hydrometers, Atmospheric pressure, Boyler's law, Elasticity, deformation of bodies, elastic forces, stress, strain, Young's modulus bulk modulus of rigidity, Surface tension and its measurement, Bemouli's equation and its application..
Beat: Thermometry, Expansion of solids, liquids and gases with temperature, Specific heat, calorimetry, Change of state, melting and boiling points latent heart, Vapour Pressure, law of saturated and unsaturated vapours, law of partial pressures. Evaporation and condensation, Humidity and its measurement, conduction, convection and radiation, Newton's law of cooling, specific heat by cooling, mechanical equivalent of heat and its determination, specific heat at constant volume and constant pressure, isothermal and adiabatic change, isothermal and adiabatic expansion of a gas. Elementary idea of efficiency of engines. Stefan's law, Refrigeration, Liquifaction of gases.
Light: Law of propagation of light and photometry, Reflection and refraction from lenses and prisms, dispersion and spectra, achromatic combination of prisms and lenses, simple optical instruments, velocity of light, elementary ideas about diffraction and polarisation.
Sound: Nature of sound waves, their production and propagation, velocity of sound Laplace's correction. Reflection of sound ,wave, stationary waves beats and resonance, Vibration of strings air columns, Musical scales, musical instruments. Doppler's effect, Microphone, loudspeaker, Ultrasonics, recording and reproduction of sound.
Magnetism: Properties of magnetic induction, magnetic fields, law of magnetic forces, Earth as a magnet, Horizontal intensity, declination and dip and their measurements, vibration magnetometers. Para forro and diamagnetic substances. Electricity and Electromagnetism: Electrification by friction and induction, Law of inverse squares, Distribution of electric charges on conductors, potential, electromotive forces, capacitors, Voltaic cell; Ohm's law, specific Elementary knowledge of secondary cells, heating effect of electric current, magnetic effect of electric current, Electromagnets and their application, Electromagnetic induction, Thermo-Electricity, thermopile, van de Graff Generator, Thermocouples, Thermionic emission, diode and its characteristics, Triode and its characteristics, Cathode ray tube, Cathode rays and properties of X-rays. Chemistry (100Marks-2.30Hours)

Atomic Structure: Bohr's concept. Quantum numbers, Electronic configuration, Pauli's exculusion principle.
Chemical Bonding: Electrovalency, co-valency, and co-ordinate valency hybridization (sp, sp2 and sp3), hydrogen bonding.
Radio Activity: Radioactive disintegration, half life period, Fission and Fusion reactions.
Redox Reactions: Oxidation number, oxidising and reducing agents, balancing of equations.
Chemical Equilibrium and Kinetics: Equilibrium constant (for gaseous system only) Le Chaterlier's principle, ionic equilibrium Ostwald's dilution law, hydrolysis, pH and buffer solutions, solubility product, common ion effect, rate constant, rate expression for first order reaction. Gaseous State : Various gas laws.
Electrochemistry: electrode potential and electro-chemical series. Catalysis: Types and application.
Colloids: Types and preparation, Brownian movement, gold number, Tyndall effect, coagulation and peptization.Colligative Properties of Solution: Lowering of vapour pressure, Osmotic pressure, depression of freezing point, elevation of boiling point, determination of molecular weight.Periodic Table: Classification of elements on the basis of electronic configuration, properties of S, p and d block elements,
Metallurgy: General methods of extraction of metals from their important ores, composition and use of common alloys. Preparation and Properties of the Following: Heavy water, hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, copper sulphate, silver-nitrate, plaster of paris, bores, Mohr's salt, ammonia, sulphuric acid, nitric acid, alums white and red lead, micro­cosmic salt and bleaching powder etc.
Qualitative and quantitative analysis of nitrogen, sulphur and halogens in organic compounds, evaluation of empirical and molecular formulae. Nomenclature of Simple Organic Compounds based on IUPAC System, Isomerism  Structural, geometrical and optical, Homolytic and hetrolytic fission of bonds, carbonium and carbanion ions.
Principles and Applications of the Following Reactions: Wurtz, Cannizzare, Claisen, Fridel Craft and Perkin. Preparation and Properties of the Following: Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, monohydric alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, monocarboxylic acids, primary amines, urea, benzenes, toluene, nitrobenzene, aniline, phenol, benzaldhydes, benzoic acid etc.
Elementary Concepts of. the Following: Polymerization, condensation, saponification of oils, proteins polymers etc.
Petroleum: Important industrial fractions, cracking, octane number.

Method of Selection : 20% marks are given on the basis of marks obtained in PCM at intermediate level. 60% of marks are allotted to written Objective-Type tests comprising of General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Chemistry, Maths and Physics. The rest of20% are given on the basis of performance in the personal interview. Admission is done on All India basis.
How to Apply: Prospectus containing details of courses and admission procedure alongwith Application Form can be obtained during May/June from the office of the Registrar of the Institute on payment of requisite amount in cash at counter by Bank Draft if required by post, drawn in favour of Dayalbagh Education Institute and payable at Agra, alongwith a chit of 4 cm x 6 cm bearing name and address of the applicant in BLOCK LETTERS. Syllabus for the written test for admission can be obtained at counter or by sending a Bank Draft alongwith an address slip of8 cm x 4 cm size.
Last Date: Tenth day after the declaration of result of intermediate examination of UP Board for regular candidates or June 30, which ever is later.
