Common Entrance Test (CET)
A Common Entrance Test (CET) at State level is conducted every year generally in the month of April for admission to Engineering Colleges. Admission to Government/University managed Engineering Colleges and Regional Engineering Colleges (Karnataka quota) is completely regulated through CET. Specific number of seats as notified from time to time in private/aided/ unaided Engineering Colleges are left to be filled at the discretion of the College management.

In some of the courses, 85% of the seats in the private aided colleges are free seats and 15% are payment seats. But in general 50% are free seats and 50% are payment seats. In the private unaided colleges each course has 50% free and 50% payment seats respectively.

Karnataka students in each Engineering College must constitute at least 50 percent of the total intake.

2. Reservation of Seats: SC/ST, Backward Communities, Sports, NCC, Defence/Ex-defence, Political Sufferers, Diploma Holders-5 percent.

3. Minimum Qualification: For admission to full time courses candidates must have passed the two-year Pre-University Exam of the Board in Karnataka or an exam recognised as equivalent thereto by the concerned University in Karnataka with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as optional subjects and English as a language, securing 50 percent (40 percent for SC/ST etc) marks in aggregate of the three optional subjects in the IInd year exam of the Pre University Exam.

For admission to part-time course, candidate must hold a diploma in Engineering in the appropriate branch from the Karnataka Board of Technical Examinations or an exam recognised as equivalent thereto by a University in Karnataka securing 50 per cent of the aggregate in the final exam (35 per cent for SC/ST).

Further, candidates must be in employment in a factory of industrial concern or technical establishment recognised or registered by the Govt. of Karnataka and possess at least 3 years experience as on July 1 of the year of admission. However, those having 6 years of experience as on July 1 of the year of admission need not fulfill the condition of securing 50 per cent marks in the qualifying exam.

4. Domicile Restrictions: Seven full academic years of study in Karnataka between First Standard and the qualifying examination. However, following criteria are given exemption.
(a) Children of Defence Personnel, Central Government/Undertakings Employees working at present continuously for a period of atleast one year in Karnataka immediately prior to the first announcement of the year of admission.

(b) Children of MPs elected from Karnataka to the extent of the period of being an MP falling during the period of the Child's study from 1st Standard to the qualifying exam.

(c) Children of serving or retired employees of
(i) All-India Services of Karnataka Cadre;
(ii) State Government who had served/are serving outside the State during the period of the child has been studying from 1st standard to the qualifying exam;

(d) Children of Central Government employees working outside Karnataka State where such employee:
(i) had declared any place in Karnataka as his Home Town, and
(ii) has either studied in any recognised Educational Institution in Karnataka for not less than five years between the 1st Standard and SSLC.

(e) Children of serving Defence Personnel or Ex-Servicemen whose home address at the time of joining the Defence Services was in Karnataka.

(f) Children of any employee transferable anywhere in India but at present working continuously for a period of atleast one year in Karnataka immediately prior to the first announcement made of the year of admission, if:
(i) the candidate has passed the qualifying exam from an educational institution in Karnataka; and
(ii) either of the parents of the candidate has studied for a minimum period of 10 years in a recognised educational institution in Karnataka

5. Application Procedure: Application forms for appearing in the Common Entrance Test (CET) and admission to Engineering Colleges are available in the month of April/May (on notification) from the Principals of Engineering Colleges or specified branches of Canara Bank on payment of requisite amount. Completed applications with photographs, etc. are to be submitted to the Principal of the Entrance Test Centres of the District in which the candidate had studied/passed his PUC/equivalent examination in Karnataka. Other candidates can register their names in only Nodal Centres. Completed applications are not received by post.
(i) Director of Technical Education, Palace Road, Bangalore.

(ii) College Management/Trust Society as shown under college.

6. Selection: The eligible candidates are required to appear at Common Entrance Test (both for Engineering and Medical Colleges). The subject of written test, the time allowed and the maximum marks for each subject will be as follows:

7. Last Date: Complete applications are to be submitted generally by April/May.
