Karnatana
Admission to first year B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch. in University, Regional; Private-aided and Private unaided Engg. colleges is made through a Common Entrance Test. The CET is the basis for selection of candidates for admission to Free and Payment seats to the first semester/first year of the above mentioned courses in the professional colleges affiliated to all the Universities in Karnataka State.
The Common Entrance Test is not applicable to the following: (1) Full-time/Part-time Diploma holders seeking admission against the quota for diploma holders;
(2) Nominees of the Government of India;
(3) Those nominated by the neighbouring States under reciprocal quota.
(4) Foreigners or NRIs who may be admitted by private Engg. colleges (aided and unaided).

2. Syllabus: The Common Entrance Test is conducted as per the I and II year new syllabus prescribed for and applicable to students of PUC /2 exam conducted by the Directorate of Pre-University Education in Karnataka.
3. Allocation of Seats: Free Seats: All seats in Govt./ University/Regional Engg. Colleges and 50% seats in private Engg colleges (Karnataka students) are free seats. Payment Seats: 50% seats in private Engg. Colleges (Karnataka students 85% and 15% seats for non-Karnataka students including Non-Resident Indians) are payment seats.

4. Filling of Seats : All Free Seats are filled up by Karnataka quota candidates with the exception of(a) candidates to be admitted in respect of seats reserved for the Nominees of Govt. of India. (b) candidates selected through All India Entrance Exam. Payment seats are filled up by the Karnataka quota and non-Karnataka quota candidates. 15% of the payment seats are reserved for the Non-Karnataka quota candidates as per the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
5. Domicile: A minimum of 10 years schooling by Karnataka students in secondary schools in the State Exemptions : Children of Defence personnel, Central/State Govt. Undertaking employees serving in Karnataka State, etc.
6. Academic Eligibility for "Free and Payment Seats" : The applicant should have passed Karnataka PUC 2 or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as optional subjects with English as one of the languages of study and obtained at least 50% marks in the PCM group (40% in the case of SC/ST/Category candidates). Physical fitness of the candidate is essential.

7. Note: A person who has appeared for the qualifying exam. and who is expecting the results is also eligible to apply for the CET, provided in case of Karnataka quota, he would submit the qualifying exam marks card at least within one week from the completion of CET, failing which no rank is assigned to the candidate and in, case of non-Karnataka quota, on the day of seat selection process when they attend, preliminary round.
8. Registering of Application Forms : The candidates who have passed or appeared for qualifying exam. within Karnataka should appear for the Common Entrance Test in the same district in which the exam: centre of the qualifying exam was located. Those who have passed or appeared for the qualifying exam outside Karnataka can appear for, CET at, Bangalore, Bidar, Bellary, Mangalore or Belgaum centres only and can register in the specified nodal centres in those places. Those who register in the Nodal centres, should collect the admission tickets from the CET cell within a span of four days before the day of exam.

Brochure (same for Karnataka and non-Karnataka candidates) with Application forms can be had on payment of prescribed charges in the branches of Canara Bank (as specified in the brochure) during April. Candidates who are from outside Karnataka can get the application form by post from CET Cell on payment of requisite charges. Applications are not available in any other institutes or in the Directorate of Technical Education.
No postal correspondence is entertained in this regard either by the Directorate or by the Bank. The brochure supplied with the application form contains names and addresses of all Engg., Medical, Dental Colleges, the courses available and fees payable for "Free seats" and "Payment Seats" and other relevant information.
