INDIAN FOREST SERVICE EXAM.

The examination is held once a year, generally in the month of July. All particulars are published in the Employment News generally in the month of January. The complete Application Form, alongwith an Information Brochure containing general instructions for filling up the form, an Acknowledgment Card and an Envelope for sending application can be obtained from anyone of Designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices throughout the country.

2. Age: A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the first day of July of the year in which examination is held.
The upper age limit may be relaxed in respect of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes and such other categories.

3. Number of Attempts: Every Candidate appearing at the Indian Forest Service Examination, who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted four attempts at the examination. This restriction on number of attempts will not apply in the case of Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe candidates who are otherwise eligible. The candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), who are otherwise eligible, shall be permitted a maximum of seven attempts.

4. Educational Qualifications: A candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree with atleast one of the subjects, namely, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of a recognised University or equivalent.

5. Plan of the Examination: The examination comprises:
(i) Written Examination in compulsory and optional subjects set out in para 6 below; and
(ii) Interview for Personality Test of such candidates as may be called by the Commission.

6. Examination Subjects: The following will be the subjects for the written examination:
Compulsory: (1) General English (300 marks) (2) General Knowledge (300 marks each).
Optionals: Each optional subject will have two papers out of the following subjects: (1) Agriculture, (2) Botany, (3) Chemistry, (4) Civil Engineering, (5) Geology, (6) Agricultural Engineering, (7) Chemical Engineering, (8) Mathematics, (9) Mechanical Engineering, (10) Physics, (11) Zoology, (12) Statistics, (13) Forestry, and (14) Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science (200 marks each).


N.B:. a) All the questions papers in the examination will be of conventional (essay) type.
(ii) All Question Papers must be answered in English.
Question Papers will be set in English only.
(iii) Candidates will not be allowed to offer the following combinations of subjects:
(a) Agriculture and Agriculture Engineering
(b) Agriculture and Animal Husbandary and Veterinary Science. .
(c) Chemistry and Chemical Engg.
(d) Mathematics and Statistics.

7. Syllabus
General English: Candidates will be required to write an essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test their understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. Passages will usually be set for summary or precis.

General Knowledge: General Knowledge, including knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observation and experience in their scientific aspects as maybe expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study.
