Hypoderm, Hypodermis - A layer of one, or more cells thick, of thikened cells which is lying immediately below the epidermis.

Hypogeal Germination - When germination takes place, thecotyledons stay below the ground.

Hypogenous - Produced lower down.

Hypogyny - Used for the arrangement of flower parts in which stamens, sepals and petals get inserted below the level of insetion of ovary. Such flower is known as hypogynous.

Hyponasty - Used for the lower side of an organ which is growing more quickly than the upper, thereby resulting in an upward bending.

Hypophyllous - Attached to, or growing on the under-surface of a leaf.

Hypoplasia - A state of having growth less than others. Developmental deficiency.
Hypoploids - Diploids.Diploids which lack a piece or pieces of chiomosomes from their complement.

Hypostasis - Said of the situation in which expression of one gene (hypostatic gene) depends on a second gene (epistatic gene). The two genes mayor may not be lying on the same chromosome.

Hypotonic - A solution having a smaller osmotic pressure than that of the solution with it is being compared.

Hypotrophy - Eccentric thickening of the underside of an approximately horizontal shoot, or root.

Hypohloeodal - Growing just within the surface of the bark.
