Synthesis of PNAs by Boc or Fmoc protocols
PNA monomers or ready-made oligomers can be purchased from PerSeptive Biosystems (Framingham, MA, USA) or from other suppliers holding license from PerSeptive Biosystems. PNAs can be synthesized by either Boc or Fmoc protocols derived from solid-phase synthesis or by using automated protocols. However, manual synthesis is simple, inexpensive and efficient.

Manual synthesis can also be used for the production of chemically modified PNAs or for the simultaneous synthesis of families of closely related PNAs. Manual synthesis will be advantageous for laboratories with small budgets for PNA synthesis and for those who wish to synthesize a pilot series of PNAs. Automated synthesis may be used by those, who have the resources and who need to synthesize a large number of PNAs.
