Methods for annotation of genome sequences

A variety of methods are available for annotation of the whole genome sequences of an organism. Most of these methods involve extensive use of computers, which make a new area of research called bioinformatics, dealt with in the next. For instance a number of softwares (gene finders) are available to identify all possible open reading frames (ORFs), which may be the possible genes, often described as candidate genes.
