P1-derived artificial chromosomes (PACs)

These vectors incorporated features of both PI and F-factor systems and can be transformed into E. coli host by electroporation. The PAC vector can accept inserts, 100-300 kb in size. Therefore, in their capability, they are placed between YACs and cosmids.

The vector with insert DNA is amplified in E. coli and several micrograms of cloned DNA can be recovered from 5-10 ml of the exponential phase of E. coli cells. Two PI cloning vectors with their essential elements.
