Protein Engineering for Developing Biosensors
The development of most biosensors involves (i) identification of naturally occurring macromolecules that provide the desired specificity for the analyte; (ii) the discovery of a suitable signal and (iii) construction of detector adapted to the macromolecule in question. The macromolecule used in biosensors, however, can be suitably modified through protein engineering to alter its binding site and/or its signal transducing properties that suit the detector instrument.
