Tools for in silico mining of SSRs

In the past, development of SSR markers was expensive, labor intensive and time consuming. But in silica discovery of SSRs from the databases has reduced the cost, lobor and time of SSR discovery. Even the polymorphism for an individual SSR can be studied with the help of database on computer, if the same sequence from different genotypes is available in the database. Following softwares are avilable for in silica discovery of SSRs (i) TROLL (tandem repeat occurrence locator), available at the site http://source-forge.net. (ii) TANDEM REPEAT FINDER (http://3cbiomath.mssm.edu) and (iii) MSL (microsatellite locator), developed in the laboratory of the author of this book and available free on request (pkgupta@ndf. vsnl.net.in).
