Central repository for biological literature: PubMed
In 1990, Harold Varmus, the then Director of NIH (USA) launched PubMed Central (PMC), which was later popularly called PubMed. Its mission was to provide access to peer reviewed literature relevant for biological sciences to many of the small research institutes in the developing world, which do not have access to scientific literature. It is one of the most valuable web resources available to a biologist for the availability of non-line biology literature. Over 4000 journals are indexed in PubMed, including most of the important journals in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and related fields. It also allows access to clinical publications of interest to medical professionals
