Alignment tools
Local sequence alignment tools. Local alignment tools allow us to find out the location of a query (input) sequence in the sequences available in the database (a query sequence is one which is fed to the computer, and about which information is sought). Therefore, it helps to find out the identity of a query sequence. Sometimes it will also help in discovery of structural genes and regulatory sequences, even when the query sequence (DNA or protein) makes only a part of the gene or of a polypeptide encoded by this gene. Even conserved repetitive sequences like SSRs or retrotransposons can be searched in the databases using local alignment tools, In fact these tools have a very wide spectrum of uses including basic studies like ‘taxonomy and evolution’ to applications in ‘crop bredding’ and ‘human health care’.
