Roots Modified for Additional Support


1. Stilt roots
Cluster of roots that arise from first few nodes of the stem obliquely into the soil and give support to plant. e.g. Maize, Sugarcane, Pandanus.
2. Prop roots
These roots arise from branches and grow vertically downwards into soil. These act as pillars and give mechanical support to aerial branches e.g. banyan.
