Modifications of Buds


1. Epiphyllous buds. These buds arise on leaves e.g. Begonia, Bryophyllum etc.
2. Cauline buds. These buds arise from cut end or pruned end e.g. Rose, Duranta.
3. Radicle buds. When buds arise on roots e.g. Sweet potato, Coffee.

4. Bulbils. When buds become fleshy due to food storage. e.g. Agave, Onion, Lily. They help in vegetative multiplication of plants.

5. Some vegetative buds are modified into thorns to act as organs of defence e.g. Duranta.
6. Some vegetative buds are modified into tendrils to help plant in climbing e.g. Passiflora, Luffa (tori) etc.
