Venation

Arrangement of veins in leaves is called venation. It is two types-reticulate and parallel.
1. Reticulate
It is found in dicot where main vein divide into branches to form net like structure. e.g. Mango and Peepal. When there is one midrib the leaf is unicostate in Mango. When there are many midribs the leaf is multicostate e.g. in Zizyphus, Cucurbita, Papaya. Exception: A dicot having parallel venation is Calophyllum.
2.Parallel
In monocots veins run parallel to each other.

Depending upon the number of midrib it is also of two types, unicostate, (Banana, Ginger) and multicostate (Grass, Rice, Borassus).
Exception:
A monocot having reticulate venation is Smilax.
