Greenhouse Effect.
Phenomenon of having higher temperature inside a greenhouse than outside, though interior receives less radiation is called as greenhouse effect.

Greenhouse Effect Caused by High Carbon-dioxide

It is due to occurrence of high CO2 content, high vapour content and glass walls. All these are permeable to short wave solar radiations and therefore enter glass house.

Dissipation of energy is prevented because longer heat waves cannot fully pass through CO2, water and glass wall of greenhouse. Dusty, cloudy, humid nights are warmer than clear, cloudless or dry nights due to green house effect.

Gases like CO2 are called greenhouse gases because they are transparent to solar radiations but are strong absorbers of long-wave or infra-red rays emitted by earth’s surface.

The alarming increase I combustion of fuels is increasing CO2 content of the atmosphere and unless until more vegetation is available, a stage of greenhouse effect shall soon reach. This will increase atmospheric temperature. The later would melt the polar and alpine snow. It may raise sea level and submerge vast areas of land.
