Bulb An organ of storage and vegetative reproduction. It consists of a flattened stem bearing fleshy leaves, or leaf-bases with buds in their axils, and scale-leaves.

Bulbil. A small bulb-like organ of vegetative reproduction that may be formed in the leaf axil, an inflorescence, or at a stem base.

Bundle end. The simplified ending of a vascular bundle in the vascular bundle of a leaf

Bundle sheath. A layer of parenchyma cells surrounding the vascular bundle of a leaf.

Bursicon. An insect hormone produced ion the central nervous system which tans and hardens the freshly moulted cuticle.

Bush. A low woody perennial plant with branches at or near ground level

Bustard. Large birds (Aves) of numerous species found chiefly in Africa but also in Europe and Asia (India), chiefly terrestrial but are powerful fliers; related to rails and cranes.

Butterfly
. An insect (Lepidoptera) with four large wings, usually completely covered with scales, distinguished from moth by the clubbed antennae.

Buttress root. An asymmetrically thickened prop root, found at the base of certain trees.

Bypass vessel. A blood vessel which joins arteries and veins, thus bypassing capillaries. Constriction or dilation regulates the blood flow through the capillaries.
