What is Graphic Designing?
Graphic designing is an art of combining text and graphics to communicate a message in an effective manner and to ease the reading process. It is a visual art based on the use of line, tone and colours by using two dimensional techniques.
What do Graphic Designer actually do?
Basically, Graphic designers develop overall layout and production design of print media like newspapers, magazines, brochures, posters, tickets', business cards, logos, promotional displays, packaging and marketing brochures for the products and book layouts (typesetting), websites, CD covers, DVD inter-activity elements, Internet banners, web interfaces, Power point presentations, corporate reports and designs for all kinds of publications.

They have to plan, analyze and create visual solutions to communicate the message effectively.
Designer's working parameters depend on the nature of job and company's requirements and preferences. Graphic designers first prepare sketches or layouts to illustrate the vision of design. Then they select colours, sound, artwork, photography, animation and other visual elements for this design. Sometimes, Graphic Designers also select the size and arrangement of the different elements on a page or a screen.After the preparation of designs, they present it to their clients or creative director of their company for approval.

Eligibility
A bachelor's degree in any discipline with specialized training in Graphic Designing is enough for getting into the field. Today, Bachelor's degree programs in graphic design are also offered at many colleges, universities and private design schools. You can also be admitted with your 10+2 qualification provided you have appropriate skills in designing.
You must be familiar with computer tools and software used in designing. But remember, training in Graphic designing can only help you in learning designing software and these tools are just a medium to drive the creative output. What's matter most is not what you use but how you use it.
Preparing an attractive portfolio is the foremost requirement as recruiters are always in the search of good portfolio. In fact, attractive portfolio is the only way that would help you in getting a good job.
Creativity, problem-solving skills, effective communication and good managerial skills are the other prerequisites.
Some experts feel that, in addition to design courses, a liberal arts education or a short term program in art history, writing, psychology, sociology, foreign languages, cultural studies, marketing or business are useful for designers to work effectively as their job requires to understand and communicate complex subjects to various clients and audiences.
Graphic designers should keep themselves up to date as the development of new softwares takes place very often. Graphic designer must identify the consumer's taste and be open to new ideas and influences and be quick to adopt the changing trends.
Problem-solving skills, paying attention to the minute details and ability to work independently and under pressure are other important traits. You need self-discipline to start projects on your own, to budget time and to meet deadlines and production schedules. Good business sense and selling ability is also crucial, especially for those who freelance or run their own business.
