There are many schools and colleges across the country and abroad that offer degrees and programs in Graphic design. The range and scope of these programs all depend on what you want and where you want to go. There are programs in multimedia, graphic designing, visual communication, advertising and animation, web development and so on.

Other programs may focus more on print or websites development. Often there is some overlapping with these programs, but they can be quite different. Often, people lump these categories into"graphic design". A multimedia program for example, may focus on television industry. Most of these programs are based on same principles and structure at work, but with a different slant.

Ad agencies and design firms are hot placement options to give your brain a work out and crank out creativity. One has to be fast- paced, passionate artist to make a mark in this field.

Free-lancing:
Companies that don't have big budgets to hire graphic designers, generally prefer free-lancers who are able to meet deadline and can work as per their need. Freelancings i another viable option for graphic designers. Apart from this, you can also start your own independent venture, if you have skills, time management and the contacts to run your own business successfully. Or get on rent a cool space downtown or share an office with other creative types. This scenario works best after few years of hand-on working for someone else.

Layout Artist:
Generally a layout artist deals with structuring and layout of images and text, in an attractive format for printed medium like magazines, newsletters, books, CD booklets, posters and some other printed material. The main thrust of this job is to ensure whether the typeface chosen is good for long term reading or it be heavy on your eyes. Does the title typeface suit the feel of the rest of article? Are the photographs arranged in such a way that look pleasing to the eye and directs the reader in the right flow? These are some of the consideration that layout artist must keep in his mind.
