Architecture and Animation

Animation has its application in the field of architecture where it has proved extremely useful. It is termed as 'virtual reality'. Literally, virtual reality means, "nearly" or "something which does not exist physically as such but made by software to appear to do so." One of the reasons for the development of virtual reality is its usefulness to architects. Architects are using it widely as it has become an important source of showing the structures and layouts of the buildings, which was earlier shown on paper

With the help of architecture, one can design a house and show the customer what the place will actually look like even before the initiation of any activity to build it.

Computer animation has led the architects to achieve higher level of efficiency by rechecking every aspect of their design. This way, computer animation enables architects to come out with any flaws in their designs. !his feature of the animation has proved cost effective and time saving as It checks expenses that could -be otherwise spent on demolition and rebuilding because of defective or uneconomical designs.

Another useful feature of application of animation in architecture is that it speeds up the whole process of drawing the initial layout and creating a model dramatically.

In a nutshell it means faster, cheaper and easier technology.

Career in Architecture
If your interest lies less in character animation and more in the realm of environments, landscapes, technical modeling and architecture, then you could think of building a career in architecture, landscaping or even in interior design.

Landscaping which was an entirely hands-on job, now its planning and preliminary stages are quickly turning towards digital realm. Landscape plans for acres of land can be modeled down to minute detail with the help of 3D technology. For instance, even for emulating the real altitudes and slopes of the existing tracts of land, animation can be used to generate blueprints and thus reduce the chances of even minor mistakes. Landscaping can also cross over into architectural animation when working on outdoor designs like parks, kiosks or sports arenas.

Architectural animation is a very useful skill to learn. Designers who can create 3D models of buildings from blueprints are nearly indispensable when it comes to planning construction. Details such as measurements, materials and placements of beams, supports, windows and other design elements can be figured out by the three-dimensional technology and can help to predict any potential pitfalls as well as estimate the materials required for the project. When combined with programmed simulations of physics and natural forces, architectural animators can even help to show how a building's materials might hold up or cave in case there is stress from various forces.

Architecture animators can also predict how much weight a support can bear. So, the best part of this is that, these are a sort of predictions and test simulations that can end up saving lives and minimising the after effects of any nataural calamity.

Interior Design
This is another interesting field for animators. 3D animation skills can also be used in interior decoration to show the potential room designs, furnishings or color combinations.

It also provides the facility to show things with different aspects to the client so as to give him proper idea about the interiors, for instance. wallpaper swatches can be tiled curtains can be coloured and changes in texture colour can be shown, one can also move furniture as per the client's choice. Without even straining a muscle, lighting place can be changed, windows adjustment can be done and in the same manner, you can change the interior several times without spending much time and money.

To sum up, architecture, landscaping and interior design are a far cry from the classic uses of the animation skills but they are still very rewarding careers that you might find suited if your interest lies more in the arena of technical modeling and architecture than in character animation. The basic skills sets aren't much different as it all depends on how you apply them.
