Quadrant - Frame of any shape which when placed over vegetation, defines a unit sample area within which the plants may be counted or measured.

Quality Seed - Good quality seeds are genetically true to species; or variety; have capacity for high germination, are free from diseases and insects, are free from mixture with other crop seeds, weed seeds and inert and extraneous material. The germination, and purity of the seed can be determined by conducting a seed test on a small representative sample drawn from the seed lot in question.

Quarter - 1. One of the four divisions of an Udder, including one teat.
2. A butcher's term for the limb of an animal and adjacent body parts, detached from a carcase.
3. A measure of weight, one quarter of a cwt, equal to 28Ibs.
4. A measure of capacity, equal to 8 Bushels.

Queen - Reproductive female in colonies of social hymenoptera (bees,wasps, ants etc).

Queen Excluder - A perforated metal sheet which prevents a queen bee from passing from the brood chamber of a Beehive to the honey chamber, but which allows the small workers to pass through

Quick Hedge - A hedge of living plants, particularly hawthorn. Also called quickset.

Quicklime - Calcium Oxide.

Quickest - Quick Hedge.

Quilt - A thick, protective cover, placed over the frames of a beehive.

Quintuplets - Five offspring produced at the same birth or one of five who have been born at one birth.

Quotidian - Recurring every day, such as malaria fever.
