Anthrax - A notifiable disease of animals caused by a bacterium, Bacillus anthracis, which lingers in the soil and in infected carcases. It occurs world wide but is endemic in Europe. In Britain it occurs in cattle and pigs, rarely in sheep and horses, and the chief source of infection is imported infected feedusually from India and African countries.
